Saturday 24th August – Fun Texas Scramble

August 28, 2019 by davidbrookens

Saturday 24th August – Fun Texas Scramble

The Texas Scramble is a fairly recent addition to our itinerary but what a success it has proved to be, not least because of a history of fine weather to play it in. The 2019 version proved no different and a fine afternoon greeted the players. The competition was over 15 holes so that no one had to climb back up the 16th with the smell of burgers on the grill tormenting them.

Scoring was tight with placing being determined only by handicap differentials and the winning team captained by Lynda Blair prevailed on the narrowest of margins. Well done Lynda and her team of husband David, Stephen Brown and David Brookens.

Thanks to all who played, to Stewart and Corey for the magnificent condition of the course, to John, Louise and Nancy for the clubhouse food and drink and finally to all the sponsors and donors who gave so generously to ensure such a fine day.

Elaine Adair

Elaine Adair

Sad to report the passing of Elaine Adair who has died after a short illness. Along with husband Brian, Elaine was for many years a member and passionate supporter of the club. She and Brian were especially supportive of younger golfers and the popularity of the Whiting Bay Junior Open stands testament to the generous support and sponsorship of Elaine, Brian and the entire Adair family. She will be much missed and our condolences go to Brian, Scott and Jill as well the wider family members, all of whom are well known and well liked here at Whiting Bay GC.

Monday 22nd July – The WBGC Junior Open Championship

July 23, 2019 by davidbrookens

Monday 22nd July – The WBGC Junior Open Championship

Following a well established tradition, and the grown-ups open at the weekend, on Monday we gave the course over to the youngsters for their annual open. It’s a fun event for juniors of all ages and the girls enjoy the event just as much as the boys. Unfortunately Brian and Elaine Adair could not be with us this year but Alan and Jill Foggo proved more than capable substitutes the competition being organised and run impeccably. The weather was again kind to us and there were, as usual, various formats designed to suit the different age groups. With spot prizes for long drives and other parts of the game all players take something from the game as well some happy memories of a fine days golf but as well as all that, the winner of this year’s Junior Open Championship is  Cameron Stewart from Lamlash. Congratulations to him and here he is receiving his trophy from organiser Alan Foggo. (There are more photos on our Facebook page – click here https://www.facebook.com/pg/whitingbaygolf/posts/?ref=page_internal )

Thanks once again to the Adair/Foggo clan for their generous and unwavering support of this event which is, after all, the future of the game and the club. Thanks also to the small army of members and friends who helped the players on the course and assisted in so many other ways to make the 2019 “Junior” such a success.

A fine afternoon at Whiting Bay Golf Club for our annual junior open championship. Open to boys and girls, no -one leaves empty handed.
