WBGC Open Weekend
Well it wasn’t quite what we are used to but what a fine weekend’s golf it turned out to be. Being able able to play for three of our most popular trophies in such a curtailed golfing year was a big bonus for us. We had good fields on both days and the fact that members were prepared to pay to play in addition to their annual subscriptions shows just how dear a place WBGC occupies in the hearts of its members.
Following the golf Lesley Wood said, “It is 20 years since Eric passed away so it was great to see such a great turn out for the competitions, ladies and gents, and also lovely that many people still remember Eric and his passion for golf and encouragement to all who played. Thanks to all involved for supporting the competition and in particular to Doreen Mainds (The Tartan Tablet Company) for donating tablet and Brian Adair to treating the ladies to Prosecco. Congratulations to Lynda for an excellent round and another handicap cut.”
The club would like to join Lesley in her words of appreciation and to thank her and her family for continuing to support the “Erics”. Their popularity is perhaps best measured by the number of players keen to participate each year.
Thanks also to the many sponsors and donors whose generosity helped to make the weekend feel almost like “The Open”. There are too many to name here but we all know who they are and we are grateful to them. Thanks also to the players who played and paid, on top of their annual subs it must be remembered, to help the club’s finances. And for those who went above and beyond in the clubhouse bar on Saturday night, their sacrifice is best recognised by the fact that Neillie Mckechnie and Nicol Auld had to go and source more beer for Sunday! Well done all; a credit to the club.
Finally, thanks as ever to John, Nancy, Jenni and Jamie in the clubhouse and at the barbie for keeping us all well fed and refreshed during another fine weekend at Whiting Bay Golf Club.
