Saturday 7^th November – AGA Winter League Rd 1

After the postponement last week due to weather and ground conditions, round 1 got underway at Machrie with the reduced format of 4 man teams. The WBGC team of John Pennycott, Dougie Auld, Kevin Macaleney and ‘Sonic’ fought out a creditable draw against a strong Lamlash team. Brodick and Machrie each won their ties to leave Lamlash and WBGC sharing the mid table position on 1 point each. On now to round 2 scheduled for Whiting Bay on Sunday 6th December when we play Machrie.

Sunday 25th October – Yellow Tees Sweep

21 played returning a set of scores that defied the blustery conditions with 15 net scores in the 60s and 10 gross scores in the 70s.

1st Stan Rainey (11) – 59

2nd John Pennycott (12) – 60

3rd Nicol Auld (4) – 61 acb and lowest gross

4th Colin Nisbet (14) – 61 acb

Nicol and Stan bagged the only 2s of the day at the 3rd and 14th respectively.

Sunday 11^th October – Bogey Competition

It’s been so long since we played a Bogey we had a fair old chat about how to score it before we started. Still, once we all understood what we were doing (you don’t often hear that at WBGC) we all enjoyed a fine morning’s golf.

20 played and half the field managed to better or tie the course. Dougie Auld managed to do it in style though by finishing 7 up on the course to win by 3 holes from David Blair.

Sunday 11^th October  – Winter Cup Rd 1

Once again the weather was kind to us for the first round of the Winter Cup. This is often the round where a low score is posted setting up the eventual winner before the bad weather settles in but despite the conditions scoring was steady rather than spectacular. 10 of the 20 cards returned scored in the net 60s but CSS still went out to 64. Neil Richardson beat that by 1 shot to win by 2 from Ronnie Mann.

3rd Stan Rainey (11) – 65

4th David Brookens (12) – 66 acb

Stan Rainey bagged the only 2 of the day at the 2^nd.

Sunday 27^th September – The Cooper Angus Par 3 Competition

It’s some time now since the Cooper Angus caravan park sponsored this competition but owner Jim Meehan left us a beautiful trophy to play for and the September weekend weather did its bit by providing a beautiful crisp morning to play it on. The ‘Par 3’ is always a fun day with some intriguing hole layouts and a good number turned out for the 2020 edition. Continuing his fine run of recent form, the winner  was John Pennycott with a net 49.

A good number of lady golfers took part and Trish Tait was the best placed with a score of 54. There were 23 magic 2s scored; too many to list here.
