Sunday 12^th January – Winter Cup Rd 4

10 played in the first Winter Cup round of the year. Persistent rain, that stopped just in time to entice golfers to go, left treacherous underfoot conditions requiring care to be taken on the steeper parts of the course. The greens having been recently cut (great work Stewart and Corey, don’t know how you managed it) were playing well though and scoring was such that CSS went down to 62.

There were no 2s but heartfelt congratulations to Graeme Crichton for topping the list of ‘no returns’.

Sunday 5th January v Lamlash at Lamlash GC

An emphatic WBGC win in the last 4 ball was not enough to prevent the team going down 3 & 1 to a strong Lamlash team in round 3 of this season’s AGA Winter League at Lamlash. On now to the rearranged fixture at Corrie on 2^nd February when we take on Brodick GC.

Sunday 22nd December – Winter Cup Rd 3

At the third attempt the 3rd round of the Winter Cup finally got underway and a field of 10 took part. Heavy overnight rain had taken its toll on the course with a lot of surface water to contend with and  playing conditions drove the CSS up to 66.

2nd Jamie Macpherson (5) – 66 and lowest gross

3rd Douglas Auld (20) – 68 acb

4th Graham Crichton (13) – 68

There were no magic 2s.

Sunday 1^st December v Machrie at Shiskine

A last minute change in circumstances led to what would have been the February fixture being brought forward and reduced to 12 holes due to the shortening December days. Up against a strong Machrie side WBGC halved 2 games but slipped to narrow defeats in the 2 remaining games to lose the match by a margin of 3-1.

Sunday 24^th November – Stableford

9 played on a calm but grey morning and managed to complete the round just as the weather took a turn for the worse. Scoring was generally good and Gus Macleod carried his recent midweek from into the Sunday game to win with an impressive 41 points.

There were no 2s and as play was on a ‘non counter’ basis there was no CSS applicable.
