Sunday 17th April – Captain’s Prize
A dry day and a couple of fiendish pin positions, chosen by the captain himself, made for a fun day’s golf for those playing for the Captain’s Prize. That’s a bit misleading since our captain, Stan Rainey, had generously provided a wide selection of prizes. The format was medal play from the yellow tees but was a ‘non counter’ for handicap purposes enabling all to relax and enjoy their golf. Scoring was phenomenally good to the extent that a sub par score of 62 was good enough for only 5th place. That came from Nicol Auld who secured the lowest gross score of the day with a 67. Winner on the day was Stewart Hammond whose net 55 beat Fergal Talty by one shot. John Pennycott secured 3rd place on 56 beating Danny Head by one shot. Doreen Mainds took the top lady’s prize with a net 66.
2’s were returned at the 4th by Duncan Heenan and Neillie McKechnie. Interestingly the 17th yielded none; you just had to see the pin position to understand why!
Altogether a fine day’s golfing fun and thanks are due in no small way to WBGC captain Stan Rainey for hosting the day and providing such a generous array of prizes.
