Sunday 10th October – Winter Cup Rd 1

14 played and enjoyed (?) some heavy rain showers that had somehow managed to elude the forecasters! Added to slippery conditions underfoot it did not make for an easy game but despite that scoring was decent. John Pennycott, belying the adage that a birdie on the 1st is the kiss of death, returned a fine level 4s gross to win by 2 shots on a net 59.

1st John Pennycott (13) – 59

2nd Neil Lucas (13) – 61

3rd Duncan Heenan (12) – 63

Gavin Mainds returned the lowest gross score of 69 while Tom Paterson and Duncan Heenan scored the only 2s of the day.

We are sorry to announce the passing of  Mary Cheyne, a long time social member of the club. Until her recent illness Mary, affectionately known as Mary Doll, was a regular Friday night quizzer. She passed away on 6th October while in care on the mainland after a long term debilitating illness and our sympathies go to her family and friends at this sad time.

Unfortunately the results of tests which will indicate when we can reopen will not be received until Monday at the earliest and accordingly we will be unable to open the clubhouse tomorrow.
 
As things presently stand we anticipate being able to reopen for golfers on Wednesday 13th October but if things change we will post here and on the club’s Facebook page.

Unfortunately the clubhouse will be closed all day today and until further notice due to staff illness. The Friday night quiz will not therefore take place. Please pass the word to any Friday regulars you know who might not see this post.
 
We will be reviewing the situation constantly and will post further information as it becomes available.
