Sunday 26th September – Medal
14 played and the scoring suggests none found it easy. A brisk wind and recently tined greens made for tricky conditions to the extent that the best net score was a 4 over par 67 from Jamie Macpherson. Jamie also recorded the only 2 of the day at the 17th.
1st Jamie Macpherson (3) – 67 and lowest gross
2nd Stuart McGregor (13) – 68
3rd Stan Rainey (9) – 69 acb
4th John Pennycott (13) – 69
Sunday 19th September – The Taylor Trophy Greensome
Another competition we were unable to play last year, the “Taylor” dates from 1890 although played for at Whiting Bay only since 1976 when it was donated to the club by the family of its first winner, Dugald McKelvie. Fitting then that on its re-introduction, one of our oldest trophies was won by the oldest pairing in the field with John Pennycott and David Brookens pipping Stuart McGregor and Gus MacLeod on a last nine countback.
1st John Pennycott & David Brookens (13) – 60 acb
2nd Stuart McGregor & Gus MacLeod (14) – 60
3rd David Hadden & David Morrison (13) – 61
12 played and no 2s were returned.
Wednesday 15th September – Summer Trophy
15 played
1st Stan Rainey (9) – 62
2nd David Morrison (9) – 63
3rd Jamie Macpherson (4) – 64 and lowest gross
4th Duncan Heenan (12) – 65
2s – Stan Rainey at the 4th
Congratulations to Jamie Macpherson, overall winner of the 2021 Summer Trophy.
Sunday 12th September – The Aitken Rosebowl
Donated to the club in 1909, “The Aitken” is one of our oldest trophies and one of the few we play for in foursomes, a demanding format which requires both playing partners to contribute to the team score. 12 played allowing a draw for 6 pairings. Tellingly no 2s were recorded while a 3 at the 8th and a 12 at the 4th also testify to the demands of the format.
1st Neil Lucas & John Pennycott (14) – 63
2nd Gavin Mainds & David Brookens (9) – 65 acb
3rd Duncan Heenan & Bruce Cameron (21) – 65
