Sunday 5th July – The Whiting Bay Improvements Stableford

9 played on a day that started out poorly and went downhill with heavy rain starting mid morning. The early starters very definitely had the best of it.

1st Neil Lucas (13) – 39 points
2nd Gus MacLeod (14) – 38
3rd Douglas Auld (20) – 36
4th Nicol Auld (5) – 35

CSS stayed at 63/36 points and there were no 2s scored.

Wednesday 1st July – Summer Trophy

12 played in the second Summer Trophy round of the season. The morning players had the pleasure of damp weather and midges while those brave enough to venture out in the evening had to contend with persistent rain. No surprise perhaps that the ’places’ went to early starters with Douglas Graham scoring a fine net 59 yet winning only on a countback from John Pennycott.

CSS stayed at 63. Jamie Macpherson bagged 2s at the 4th and 17th. Douglas Auld also scored a 2 at the 17^th.

Wednesday 24^th June – Summer Trophy

The first Summer Trophy round following easing of the lockdown rules attracted a field of 17 who found the course in fantastic condition upon the resumption of competition golf. By any standards Stewart has done a fantastic job, rendered even more creditable by the fact he is working unassisted at present.

Scoring on the day was impressive with CSS dropping to 62 and 13 of the field returning scores in the net 60s. Clearly the layoff has benefited players as well as the course but none more so than Nicol Auld who carded a storming gross 61,  yet  won by only 2 shots.

2nd David Blair (15) – 57

3rd Kevin McAleney (10) – 59

4th John Pennycott( 14) – 60 acb

Nicol Auld and Kevin McAleney bagged 2s at the 4th. Nicol repeated the feat at the 7^th.

Sunday 8^th March – Winter Cup Rd 6

With a number of players in contention for the trophy, 9 played in the 6^th and final round of this season’s Winter Cup. Despite wet underfoot conditions, and heavy rain that blighted the final few holes, scoring was good and CSS stayed at 63. Neil ”Sonic” Lucas beat that by 1 shot to pip John Pennycott

Jamie Macpherson returned the lowest gross score with a 71 and Neil Lucas chipped in at the 14th for the only 2 of the round.

The overall winner of the Winter Cup is Wolfi Kroner who prevails on a countback from John Pennycott. Both players returned 3 cards totalling level par of 189 but Wolfi’s last counting score, a net 61 in the 5th round, was enough to let him retain the trophy he also won last year.

Sunday 1^st March – v Corrie GC at Whiting Bay

Whiting Bay rounded off its winter league campaign with a comprehensive 4 – 0 victory over a depleted Corrie team leaving Whiting Bay in 4^th place after 3 defeats and 2 wins. With the recent weather it was quite an achievement to get any golf played at all and many thanks are due to Stewart and Corey for ensuring the course was fit for play. That said conditions were far from pleasant and all who participated are to be congratulated on their endurance. Congratulations too to Lamlash GC on retaining the trophy with an undefeated record of 3 wins and 1 drawn match.
