18 played in this quirky format where, although classed as strokeplay, players compete against the course on a matchplay basis, the players net score winning or halving or losing each hole. The end of the round sees players up or down to the course as if it were matchplay. On this occasion only two players managed to beat the course with Graham Wilks coming out on top after a countback.
1st Graham Wilks (15) – 1up acb
2nd David Brookens (15) – 1up
3rd David Blair (11) – 1 down
4th Gus MacLeod (16) – 2 down
Graham Wilks scored the only 2 of the day at the 11th

For such a pleasant morning, a surprisingly small field of 9 took to the course for the Hamilton Salver. On greens made tricky by recent aeration work John Parker-Jones returned a creditable 37 points to win by 1 shot from John Pennycott. Congratulations to him on winning his first trophy at Whiting Bay.
1st John Parker-Jones (22) – 37 points
2nd John Pennycott (16) – 36
3rd Jamie Macpherson (5) – 34
Three 2s were returned; Douglas Auld at the 4th, David Morrison at the 14th and Stan Rainey at the 17th.
