April 2021 Fixtures
April Fixtures
Here is the first monthly fixture list of the coming season. Please note an early alteration from the annual list already published. Due to the current restrictions and the difficulties in organising teams and a draw, the Poole Mixed Fours and the Tor Alvey Greensome have been put back to dates in early June.
WOLFI KRONER
WOLFI KRONER
The club is saddened to announce the passing of past captain, current vice captain and long term member, Wolfi Kroner. Having bravely battled a debilitating illness, Wolfi passed away peacefully at home on 9th March in the company of his beloved wife Gege, son Markus, daughter in law Fiona and other members of the family. He will be greatly missed by them and the many friends he made during his life on Arran and will be remembered especially for his starring role as maitre de, compere, stand up comic etc while running with Gege, very successfully, the Trafalgar restaurant here in Whiting Bay.
From a golfing perspective it was his proud boast that he had been, at one time or another, a member of every club on the island but it is perhaps safe to say that at Whiting Bay we were lucky to have the best of him. He served as captain from 2017 to 2018 and then pitched in as vice captain when his captaincy was over, turning up to work around the clubhouse even as his health deteriorated. But perhaps most importantly, Wolfi was just great fun to be with. He will be very greatly missed and our condolences go to Gege and the family.

SCOTT MCCONNELL
SCOTT MCCONNELL
The response, on the club’s Facebook page, to the recent announcement of Scott’s passing speaks volumes of the regard in which he was held. It will perhaps be a comfort to know that he slipped away peacefully, at home, on the 9th of February. The following details are extracted from the notice published in The Herald.
Funeral service at 2.30pm on 3rd March for family only but is available on webcast, contact family for link or those wishing to pay respects can do so as the cortege passes on the A71 between Scott’s home at Priestgill (1.35pm) and childhood home in Hurlford (2.15pm) en route to Holmsford Bridge Crematorium, Dreghorn.
