Sunday 23^rd January – Winter Cup Rd 4

20 players competed in the 4th round of the Winter Cup and while weather conditions were benign, playing conditions were tricky. There was only one scratch score in the 60s and only one 2 returned. Since both of these markers were set down by club captain Stan Rainey, it will be no surprise to read that he also won with the lowest net score, 4 strokes ahead of his nearest challenger. Well played captain Stan, a fine round by any measure.

Sunday 16^th January – Friendly v Lamlash

A fine morning drew a decent field of 33 players, fairly evenly spread from both clubs, for the January friendly with Lamlash. As in November the home club prevailed with Whiting Bay winning by 5&1/2 to 2&1/2 in the inter club match, leaving each club with a victory from the matches played thus far. In the individual Stableford, Dougie McFarlane returned a near flawless scratch 62 to prevail on  a countback from David Blair.

Jamie Macpherson and Iain Murchie returned the only 2 so f the day at the 2nd and 17th respectively.

Saturday 15th January – AGA Winter League Rd 3

After last week’s weather enforced postponement, reduced teams of four contested the 3rd round of this season’s winter league at Brodick. Whiting Bay met Lamlash and prevailed by 2-0 to move up to the 4 point mark in the table. Placings after round three are

Whiting Bay – 4

Brodick – 2

Lamlash – 1

Machrie Bay – 1

The next round is on Sunday February 6th when Whiting Bay take on Shiskine.
