Well suddenly its October and time to get used to playing preferred lies and informal sweeps. As usual we’ll be running the Tam Young Tankard on Wednesday mornings. The format’s the same as before but there have been some  rules changes to handicapping and conceding putts. We’ll also have the popular Srixon Ball sweep on Friday mornings and while that is played using winter handicaps, mercifully it will be a non counter for winter handicapping purposes.

These sweeps have been great fun in the past so come on along and enjoy some winter golf.

Sunday 27th September – The Cooper Angus Par 3 Competition

It’s some time now since the Cooper Angus caravan park sponsored this competition but owner Jim Meehan left us a beautiful trophy to play for and the September weekend weather did its bit by providing a beautiful crisp morning to play it on. The ‘Par 3’ is always a fun day with some intriguing hole layouts and a good number turned out for the 2020 edition. Continuing his fine run of recent form, the winner  was John Pennycott with a net 49.

1st John Pennycott (12) – 49

2nd Nicol Auld (4) – 51 & 1/3

3rd Scott Adair (5)- 51 & 2/3

A good number of lady golfers took part and Trish Tait was the best placed with a score of 54. There were 23 magic 2s scored; too many to list here.

14 played and enjoyed superb golfing conditions although fading autumn light  reduced the number of players competing in the evening. CSS stayed at 63, academic for Gus MacLeod really as he carded a superb net 57 to win by 8 shots from a clutch of players on 65.

3rd David Brookens (12) – 65 acb

4th John Pennycott (12) – 65

Two magic 2s were recorded; David Morrison at the 4th and Kevin Jackson at the 16th

10 played on yet another beautiful morning for golf. Just back from a successful golfing trip to some classic courses on the mainland, John Pennycott brought his fine form back with him to win by 1 point from Stan Rainey.

1st John Pennycott (13) – 38 points

2nd Stan Rainey (11) – 37

3rd Ronnie Mann (12) – 34

4th Alan Kay (19) – 32

CSS stayed at 63/36 points and the only 2 of the day was scored by Gavin Mainds at the 4th.
